Contractor Development and Bonding Program (CDABP) Webinar — 10/27 @ 3:30 PM If you’re a contractor looking for assistance with your capacity and business growth, join our webinar hosted with the City’s Contract Finance Assistance Program (CFAP)! Contractors will learn the fundamentals of bonding, why it's necessary for the City of Los Angeles' projects, and certifications. RSVP at the link HERE. New Sidewalk in Los Feliz Vermont Ave We are thrilled to see the completion of the sidewalk installation on Vermont Ave between Melbourne and Kingswell — these sidewalks are a neighborhood improvement that will last for decades to come with responsible street tree management. We’re incredibly grateful to the partnership of the Bureau of Street Services (BSS) in carrying out this project, especially the crews for their tireless work on the ground. This project was made possible with excess grant funds left over from curb extensions along Vermont Ave — to determine the best way to spend these funds, our office conducted a walk audit of the blocks on Vermont from Franklin Ave to Prospect Ave, and we submitted our sidewalk proposal to BSS. After evaluating and assessing location and beginning the repair (and not without the challenges sidewalk installation can hold!) we’re so pleased to see the final result. There are various ways the City of Los Angeles can enhance the public space in business areas: street lighting, street light banners, street furniture investments, landscaping & median improvements, tree plantings, sidewalk repairs, reconstruction, and more. Connect with our office to brainstorm how we can improve your business district together! BEFORE
Paid Family Leave allows us time as a society to prioritize the next generation, by giving parents time off in the most tender time of their child's development. But as the old adage goes, time is money. Businesses that are impacted by California's Family Leave program face increased personnel costs like upskilling existing staff and hiring new staff. Eligible small businesses in California with 1-100 employees can apply for grants of up to $2,000/employee to help offset the financial cost of family leave. For more information and the application, check out CaliforniaPFL.com or call (818) 989-0300.

How to do business with the City of Los Angeles Thursday, October 13 | 10AM Accessing LA events connect participants to a dynamic tight-knit community of those who want to make money by doing business with the City of Los Angeles and public agencies. RiseWith promotes business/contracting development, especially in the San Fernando Valley. RSVP HERE. Contract with the City The Regional Alliance Marketplace for Procurement (RAMP) was named for the region’s commitment and collaborative effort to post their opportunities in one place, thereby making it easier for businesses to access multiple contracting opportunities in a centralized space. The City of Los Angeles wanted the name of this platform to represent its participants. Click HERE to learn more. Business Website - ADA Compliance Our office has been alerted by several small business owners in Council District 4 that lawsuits are being filed against them by law firms, often in Orange County, utilizing an obscure provision in federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regarding the disability accessibility of their websites. Though we have followed up with our federal partners, national reform of laws allowing this behavior is not expected in current or future sessions of Congress. Thankfully the City of Los Angeles can help. Avoid a hefty legal bill (often around $10,000) by ensuring that your business website is ADA-compliant. If you are not sure whether you are in compliance, or need help coming into compliance, please reach out to your nearest Business Source Centers to assist you.

The Power of Procurement Each year, the City of Los Angeles spends approximately $4.5 billion procuring goods and services. That puts policy makers and city employees in an incredibly unique position to make a REAL difference with your tax dollars. Councilmember Raman believes that building a more equal, fair, and just society is by ensuring the City of Los Angeles contracts with more local and small businesses, women-owned and minority-owned businesses, and businesses modeling high environmental standards. In support of this mission, Councilmember Raman joined Eric Garcetti for the signing of the Mayor's Executive Directive (ED) 35 — increasing access to the City of LA’s procurement process for women and minority-owned businesses. This directive follows earlier studies and recommendations to increase equity in the City’s procurement process.
