Mehmet comes to District 4 after six years as a freelance Cartographer, GIS Analyst, and Graphic Designer where his clients ranged from economic development firms, to landscape architects, to urban planners, to academia and others. His work included spatial analysis and mapping for statewide grant projects, where he helped write applications for local Southern California governments that have won over $190M in state funding. He also helped the Los Angeles Department of Public Health complete Active Transportation Plans for the cities of San Fernando and Hawaiian Gardens. Prior to his freelancing, he worked for a for-profit/nonprofit economic development firm focused on bringing private financial institutions and grocery store investment and fresh food into underserved communities nationwide. Prior to that he worked at a county government in St. Paul, Minnesota where he was a GIS specialist who helped build a countywide parks and recreation mapping application.

Mehmet grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota. He moved to Los Angeles in 2012 and lives in Hollywood with his wife Madeline.
