If you haven’t heard the news — the ⅔ mile stretch of Griffith Park Drive from Travel Town to Mt. Hollywood Drive is now permanently closed to personal vehicle use! On Friday night, hundreds of community members joined us in Griffith Park to celebrate the closure and another big victory: $4 million in safety and transit infrastructure improvements for the Park and surrounding neighborhoods secured in the State budget by our partner in Sacramento Assemblymember Laura Friedman.

The closure was made permanent following a unanimous vote by the Board of Recreation and Parks Commissioners on Thursday after a successful pilot program. People on foot, bicycles and horses have welcomed the increased access to active recreation and the reduction in cut-through traffic between two major highways around the Park.
Improvements to Griffith Park to make it safer for active transportation had been something my office had been discussing with the Department of Recreation and Parks for some time. After the untimely death of Andrew Jelmert, who was cycling and killed by a speeding driver, our work moved forward with greater urgency. This closure is just the first step of a series of these improvements that will roll out over the next few months.
Walk, bike, ride a horse, and more down Griffith Park Drive!
Thank you to the partnership of Assembly Friedman and the AD43 team, Recreation & Parks staff, the Mayor’s office, and organizations and advocates including Friends of Griffith Park, Griffith Park Advisory Board, Inclusive Action, LACBC, LA Walks, Streets For All, S.A.F.E., and the Hollywood United and Los Feliz Neighborhood Councils for helping us put on an event fitting of such a joyous occasion.

SUBMIT COMMENT ON THE DRAFT WILDLIFE ORDINANCE | DEADLINE AUGUST 22 | MORE INFO
In April, the Planning Department released a revised draft of the proposed Wildlife District Ordinance, which aims to balance wildlife habitat and connectivity with private property development thereby achieving more sustainable outcomes in the hillsides and habitats of Los Angeles.
The proposed ordinance will be considered by the City Planning Commission in fall 2022 — and right now, the ordinance is still open to comment from the public. This is an important opportunity to share your input about the proposed regulations!
The date for submitting comments has been extended to August 22, 2022. For feedback to be considered in the revisions to recommendations to the CPC, send comments to [email protected]. After August 22, comments can still be submitted directly to the CPC.
The interactive map, draft ordinance, and more information can be found on the project webpage at planning4la.org/wildlife.
